TIERRA
Networked world
South America, around the year 1800: Humboldt's journey from the rainforests of the lowlands to the heights of the Andes leads him to insights that still characterise our understanding of the Earth's ecosystems today. He saw connections everywhere, understood nature as a living entity and recognised the unity in diversity. He was the first to speak of life and climate zones that run around the globe and recognised the constant interaction of altitudes, ocean currents, air and winds as well as vegetation. His way of looking at nature from a global perspective allowed him to recognise the laws and climate zones that span across the entire world and shape the face of our planet.
